Performance analysis of die steel

Die steel is an important raw material in the process of die production. Die steel can be roughly divided into two categories, one is hot work die steel and the other is cold work die steel. This article will analyze the performance of hot work die steel.

Performance analysis of hot working die steel

Due to the different metal composition and processing conditions, different performance requirements are put forward for hot working die materials. Therefore, the following properties should be mainly considered for hot working die steel.

The temperature difference between the surface and the core of the hot working die is large under working conditions. According to the different mold type and cavity structure, its surface temperature fluctuates in the range of 550–750℃. When starting to work, if the mold is not preheated or improperly preheated, the temperature of the center part is low, often equivalent to room temperature. The early plastic deformation failure or cracking failure of hot working die cavity is closely related to the low yield strength or plasticity of the material at high temperature. Therefore, it is of great significance to understand the mechanical properties of hot working die materials at room temperature and high temperature for the correct selection of die materials:

① Hardness and strength

The material is required to maintain a certain hardness and strength under the service temperature of the mold, and has good thermal stability to prevent the deformation of the mold.

(2) toughness

Many hot working dies, especially those used for forging hammers, often have to bear large impact loads in the working process. In order to prevent the cracking of the dies, it is required that the die materials must have high impact toughness and fracture toughness.

For the correct choice of mold materials, there are more details, here is not a list of the above is the use of hot die steel performance analysis, I hope to help you.
